Okay, so for the last 6 months I've been pulling engine/trans in this truck and finally I've come the day I got it running again. Everything is new in the engine pretty much, and I've got a new torque converter and pump now. I had to remove my exhaust and my exhaust flange gasket is on it's way.. My question is can that exhaust leak cause a p0453 and p0446? And by the slightest chance, p1740? I only ask this because I can't find a reason to why I got that code.

Well P0446 and P0453 are evap codes, and P1740 is a transmission code, so I am going to say no to the exhaust leak.

446 is vent control failure. 453 is tank pressure signal high.

1740 is a torque converter clutch electrical failure.

None of that will be caused by an exhaust leak. They are all electrical problems.

I've gotta look them up when I go in

edit: aha, way off. I probably hooked something up wrong. I just figured anything can cause something with this truck to go wrong..

It's all electrical stuff.

If you fix the vent control issue, it may fix the tank pressure issue. The 453 code just means it saw something out of range. If it isn't venting properly then the tank will over-pressure. So be careful taking the cap off the refuel until you get that fixed.

Not sure about the trans issue. Could just be a coincidence, could be you didn't plug stuff back in right.

i'll get back to ya tomorrow on it. thanks for the help

Okay so I went underneath an swapped the two that I thought I had mixed up, drove fine til it warmed up, then my battery light came on, went off, came back on, went off for the last time, then check engine light and o/d light started flashing.. I've got not a clue. Bad ground possibly?

Edit: double checked all plugs going to transmission, made sure my starter wires were tight.. Check engine light is gone, o/d light continues to flash. I noticed first going to second it shifts hard.
Edit: also, when I was removing the transmission, I started taking the neutral safety switch off. Would that have anything to do with it?

I appreciate all the help greatly

Yeah it wouldn't be exhaust because I have the next year model and my exhaust has been modified heavily and it's thrown no codes. The 5R55E trans is derpy, it shifts hard and doesn't know what to do half the time. I don't know about flashing o/d light, it may be going on and off overdrive, I have no idea why.

i can't seem to get rid of the p1740, going to take the extra TCC Solenoid I have and drop the pan at the trans shop tomorrow. will post back

The 5R trans isn't "Derpy". It's no worse than any other out there, and actually it's better than a lot of them.

You have a definite issue, and it is inside the trans, or in the control circuitry. I would go ahead and swap out a solenoid if you have one.

would you recommend I still drive with it? it doesn't act up right away.

It probably won't hurt anything. At some point it may lock up full time, then it will stall when you come to a stop. Like a manual without the clutch being put down.

I guess it's just mine, it sits in 3rd gear at 75mph...

:shok: haha hopefully I catch all green lights on my way there! i appreciate it!

Swapped out the TCC solenoid and it shifts great. Battery light came back on, so now I'm charging the sumbitch and well go for there

edit: Brought the truck to have the battery light diagnosed, said my battery was bad, so I replaced it, battery light is still on. And as I was about 3 minutes away from home the o/d light started flashing again. I'm at a loss with this truck right now
