Limited slip is a major pain in the butt! Not only is it shreddin my back right tire but I cant get traction in the winter.

A friend told me you can have pins put in no problem or weld it shut but I dunno. What would be the cheapest easiest way to lock em up?

weld the spider gears up

I wouldn't, unless it never sees tarmac... Find an axle with a Trac-Loc and swap that in... If you already have a L/S and you are only getting the one wheel peel, you might try rebuilding it with new clutch packs but, the Trac-Loc diffs in both my BII and Explorer are still nice and tight after 21 and 18 years respectively...

It will only slide if Im turning left. If I goose it around a right corner, it takes the weight off the right tire and it spins so stupid but the left one does nothing. Same with break stands...Its a 97' I paid like 1000 for it so I dont care too much, just wondering if theres a quick simple way to get posi track.

How difficult is to to take apart the diff to get to the spider gears?

if you weld your spiders and drive on pavement get ready to break axles, u-joints, or gears! It will force your wheels to turn at the same speed when turning and unless your on dirt and one wheel can break loose something is bound to break. Find a limited slip or leave it the way it is.

It isn't going to break anything, it's just going to kill the tire life.

So do you have a limited slip or not? You do realize "posi" is LS, right? You can rebuild your stock unit but they still kinda suck, I suggest a Detroit Truetrac for a good street LS.

weld your spiders and see what happens. it does break stuff its common knowledge ask around.

The tru-trac units are alot better than the stock FORD clutch pack style.

The tru-tracs are a torque biased worm gear L/S, consistent and more reliable.

Ask anyone on here who's welded their 7.5s or 8.8s... You're not going to break anything on the street.

My dad had a really tight posi in his Chevelle, he says that in snow it only wanted to go straight and push the turned front wheels or spin in circles... even with the 396 over the front wheels.

I don't think a locker or a welded diff is the answer for a 2wd truck in snow...

That is normal behavior for an open rearend. Summit Racing has OE Ford limited-slips for about $230 for a 7.5" rear, the 8.8" is more. Odds are yours is a 7.5" since it is a 2wd.

He has it listed as a 4.0L so it had better be a 8.8. Cheapest is not in no way the best!

A lot depends on what size tires you have.

With say, 31" tires or less, it's unlikely to break anything on the 7.5" or 8.8"

As you go bigger though, the level of stress goes up proportionately, which can fatigue the axle shafts.

Of course like mentioned, tire wear and the stares you'll get every time you make a turn is a whole different subject.
I would 2nd the Detroit TrueTrac L/S unit. These should last a long time, as there are no clutches to wear out.

cheap weld the spiders had 33 on 7.5 was my dd but i don't know what i talking about
