i want to get a little more clearance in my truck for cheap. i was thinking of making custom brackets for the rear leafs but i dont know what to do about the front. im kind of weery about cranking the tortion bars and would like to avoid it if possible. if i were to make coil spacers and put the brackets on the back, do i have to get an allignment and do i also have to adjust brake lines or drive lines?

any advise?

coil spacers up front are fine, what brackets are you talking about in the back though? i would either do a 4" block, and remove your stock block, or use lift shackles. you may need longer brake lines in the front (im not exactly sure) but the back will be fine. you will need an alignment, but your driveshafts should be fine. if you have a supercab, you may need to swap in a 1pc driveshaft in the rear though. you also may end up needing shocks, im not exactly sure on that one either.

stuff

why and what about a 1peice drive shaft? how many peices is the one i have now? is it longer? and would i have to get a 4 wheel allignment?

the coil spacer will throw your camber way out of wac. u could get a cheap lift with drop brackets and shocks included for around $500

Just a FYI you don't have torsion bars so you don't need to worry about that option.

If you have coils you dont have torsion bars. and you have a 90 so you have coils

You can make rear drop bracket for the leafs. They work great, I have them myself. I used to use front coil spacers ( still have them on the shelf ) and they too work well. The front brake lines either need to be relocated or replaced with aftermarket lines. The cheapest way is to just make a new bracket and relocate it. The easiest is to buy longer lines. You may need a new rear drive shaft because the distance from the transfer case and the rear axle will be longer. It's also possible that you may need to have the front drive shaft lengthened also. Yes, you will need an alignment and may need new concentric bushings.

the reason for the 1pc driveshaft is because the 2pc doesnt like any lift, atleast not more than an inch or 2. ive only lifted mine about 1-1/2 inches and it vibrates how it is now. its got somethign to do with the carrier bearing and the u-joint angles. theres a couple good articles in the tech library if you havent seen them. you shouldnt have any issues with your front driveshaft though.

I got my drop brackets for $80 at a wrecking yard, and pieced everything else together for less than $250. If you look around, lift parts are out there, you just have to take your time.

You will have to realign with any method of lift whether it's a $500 kit, leveling springs, spacers and blocks or anything else that lifts the frontend. Camber bushings are around $60 a pair but nearly nothing at a self serve wrecker. You can only lift the front about 2" before running into caster problems so more than that you need drop brackets.

one pice drive shaft

if you have a standard cab , i believe you should already have a 1 piece shaft---now if you have a super cab, yours will be a 2 piece shaft with a center carrier bearing . the center carrier bearings suck because they are held down with a u-type clamp and rubber mounted. theres too steep of an angle and youll keep replacing them about once a month. if yours is a supercab.....you can get a 1 piece driveshaft from a 98 supercab or newer to eliminate that problem. there are two different styles that were used , steel and aluminum i forget which is thinner, but the larger one you will have to do some trimming on the gas tank protective shield. look in the tech library, theres a how to in there and has some good pix too.
i hope this helps you out .:bye:
