cheap ideas for improveing power

wait so you mean sticking an oxygen bottle under the hood and having a hose connected to the intake tube means im not getting more power? But it sounds a lot more powerful plus I put a nos sticker on the bottle. It should be a ton faster.

No need to buy the bottles, just get the stickers.. They are good for more than enough power on their own.

I happen to have stickers covering my whole back window. I can no longer see things behind me, but I just KNOW I am passing things so much faster than before all those stickers.:tease:

So I was reading a book that some of you guys may have heard of: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
Dang, I haven't heard anybody refer to that book in quite a few years. Been a long time since I've read it.

All I have to say is WOW. You guys are great!!! I wonder how often this happens...lol
Not very often in the 4-cyl section, it's a bit more common in the V8 section.

Too bad really, I was hoping that Levi could actually come up with something meaningful.

dang. i finally find this thread, spend 3 hours reading it and all there is left is a smouldering village formerly filled with thatched roof cottages.

my only question is this: i got a 29 on the ACT. how much of the world am i smarter than?

what about larger throttle bodies & under drive pulleys. Where can a person get the underdrive pulleys & what vehicle could be the donor of a larger throttle body that will be a bolt on & also who sales a nice performing header. My 94 has a factory header ,but the after market im assuming must bew better.

i know how to milk a cow, guess im not that ignorant then.
and ive learned that replacing the stock air intake setup with aftermarket ones will screw your maf sensor due to dirt sticking into it
any Ranger owner around here knows that, thats why we dont like em.
the guy brought wankel to the party, any ricer can mention wankel, he claims he works for street performance, and recomends CAI as a great HP bolt on, so hes a ricer.
8 pages and no one gave the man a tip for improving power.

i would say regear and loose dead weight
rip off that spare tire:headbang:

ive heard upgrading from the stock 17lb injectors to a 19or bigger gives a gain in performance. the efire sparkplugs shoot the spark straight out into the chamber so the spark is like 3x as long as a conventional plug. going to try them some time.

i also ran a complete 2.25 exhaust system from header back and noticed no performance just louder with a lot of drone inthe cab. someday i am going to try a new cam, injectors and the ignition to go with it. also thinking of an electric fan. this should take a lot of drag off the motor. if you have ac you can delete it. same with power steering. my first truck had neither and i noticed it had more balls than this ranger. a throttle body spacer would also help possibly but maybe not. you could probably order one somewhere or make your own out of a hard composite type wood or phenolic resin of some sort. wrap your header to keep engine bay temps cooler. i hope this helps alittle bit. its not all stuff Ive done yet on my ranger but stuff ive done on other vehicles with good results and plan to do to mine. i wouldn't recommend it if i wasnt going to try it myself or hadn't done it myself already.

why not swapping a 2.5?
its an easy swap since both engines are almost the same
and a 2.5 has more power than an early 2.3 with almost the same mileage.
at least it has good torque.

you can also go with an electric fan to reduce drag on the engine. also if you can reduce weight then you dont need power.

what drags more power?
a mechanic fan or an electric fan?
the electric will draw electricity, making the alternator work more, and i ve heard that the more the alt works the more the engine takes to turn it

in dyno results with a friends car the electric fan gained 1 hp
