I got a 92 extended cab short box Ranger. It had a 4.0 in it but I'm right now swapping in a 302 (obvious choice). I have it lowered with Hangers and coils but I was wondering if I wanted to could I get away with a flip kit in the rear and a c notch in the frame or would the torque twist it to rat poo? The motor is from a 84 Mustang, but I plan on giving it more torque than stock (some day when the bank acount is full again). Any help would be great.

If you're thinking of c-notching the rear, I would box the frame for a good two feet in front of and behind the notch, this should be more than sufficient to regain the strength and add a little as well.

BigBlockRanger has his C-notched with a 460 (now 545!). Give him a little time to get out for a first test drive and you'll have your answer.

I have a c-notch in mine and I higly doubt Ill ever twist it. I have the c-notch from suicide doors and its a real nice piece. I think its jsut as strong before if not stronger.

cool beans guys thanks. Wow 460, if only I had money and a better job than A&W. I was going to box the frame regardless of what motor was in it anyway. Thanks guys.

it takes quite a high powered engine to twist a frame. You can box it if you want, but i think you will be fine with the engine your running.

I read that if you have a mild 302 or 351 with automatic, you should be OK, but if you have a higher output motor or a manual tranny, then boxing is highly recommended. Read this manual, it's very helpful http://www.mre-books.com/ranger.html:not_i:

It probably has alot to do with what tires you are running too. If you have a half built motor with street tires on the back you wont twist anything most likely cause your just going to spin and there is no real stress on anything. On the other hand if you have a set of slicks or drag radials or something of that sort, and you do nothing but hook up, then you could have some twisting(with alot of hp 500+???)
