Hey everyone, been a member for a while and done quite a bit of reading in here. My question: what would cause my charging guage to drop when i accelerate while passing or just getting up to speed? Also Charging levels seem to get lower and lower over the past couple of days? I had a tech at Advance Auto run a check on the battery and alt. on sat. They both checked out fine. I swapped out the voltage regulator, but obviously not it.

Welcome to The Ranger Station!

Click on the Tech Library tab at the top of the page and read the alternator section.

In general, most alternators only last about 120-140,000 miles, then the brushes are too short to maintain contact. Another common failure is corrosion under the insulation of the power cables. Good luck figuring it out.

Thanks. The Truck has 125,000 on it and still on the original drive belt and alternator. Today i installed a new alt, battery, positive and ground cables, and new drive belt. Checked all other connections and problem has been resolved. Been a busy day under the carport.

You're welcome, and thank YOU for posting your positive result!

Amen - Thanks from me too. It is extremely helpful to have positive results posted. Too many threads end with sage advice from guys like Earl43P, ADSM08 etc.
