charging issue???

old alt wasnt keeping up so i had it tested and it was bad,so i get a new alt and put it on and when i started it the gauge on my dash was pegged out,and battery light was on.for fear of burning somthing up i took it back and exchanged it,so now the new one is on and charging at 14.84 on the back of the alt. but the dang battery light is still on........batt is holding a good charge 13.4 volts alt is putting out 14.84 and the batt light still glows red i dont get it???
any ideas beside taking out the light to the battery light
by the way its a 94 ranger with a 4.0
