4 liter in a '97 Ranger..How hard it to change plugs?
What tools do you need?
Anybody ever done it?
Thanks for your help,
Bornready

5/8" spark plug socket and a ratchet and a couple of extensions, maybe a swivel.

Pretty basic.

Thanks for the info.
Basic to you... Driver's side...looks like the EGR stuff is in the way. I can't even see the plugs on the right side. I thought I might have to remove the alternator and I don't know what all else.
I have a 2000 Explorer with a V8 and have to reach through the wheel well to get at the plugs. I thought maybe that was the case with my Ranger.
Considering your advice...I'll take another look at it.

1-5 are pretty straight forward. #6 will be the fun one. I have to go though the fender and by loosening the inner fenderwell and using 2 flex joints. Be sure ta get platinum or better plugs. You don't wanna do it again anytime soon.

i jsut did my 98 yesterday and all i needed were 2 3" extensions and a swivel joint. the ahrdest one was cylinder 3. drivers side were all pretty easy and the only problems i ahd was gettin them plugs to thread back in. get autolite dbl platinum or the iridiums or them bosch that dont need gapping

Keep the bosch plugs away, especially those stupid plus 4 plugs.

Use motorcraft or autolite platinum.

Spark plug replacement

Did both a 1994 and a 1996 4.0. If you have a longer extension or two it helps a lot. So does a swivel.
