Looks like I am down to changing out the switch in line after the key, the guy at the parts store told me I am going to have to pull the steering wheel and drop the colum to get to it, is this the only way? Seems like it might be easier to go through the dash but I am not sure where it is I cant see it. Anyone done this?
Advise welcome

why u changing it? if you lost the keys or something just pay a locksmith to make you a new one.

not the key switch there is a circut card looking thing that sends the power to the seleniod after you turn the key. That link doesnt work either.

i just unbolted one from under the dash of a 92 explorer(almost identical) to start the truck at a wrecker so i could hear it run before buying the motor.theres only two 11mm nuts on the column holding the inline switch the rod goes to on the left top side of the column.i did it by removing some of the lower panels to see up there and took off the nuts with a 11mm combo wrench.then pulled the switch down where i could use a screw driver to start it.i was surprised that you can steal a ford with only a screwdriver and 11mm wrench,i diden't need to pull the column.

changing switch

The parts guy is right ,it's easer that way.I don't know what your original problem was ,but if your truck is a standard shift ,the switch on the clutch pedal also can cause the truck not to start . jmcgorge

I have changed one on a 91 ranger, I didn't need to pull the column, you just gotta be creative with how you position your neck so you can see what the fawk your doing. I think mine was also 11 mm bolts...Just reach up in there and see if it i possible on your truck, It should be black or grey and sitting on on top of the steering column, with a mess of wires coming off it

Thanks for the info, I ended up changing the negative cable harness out and so far no problems.
