Has anyone changed the front cable on a 2004 or similar? I bought all new cables but can't figure out how to replace the one going into the cab that attaches to the parking brake assembly.

From what I can tell...

you have to attach a string to the new cable (from under the truck) and pull it up under the dash and connect it there. Then attach the other end to the equalizer (the splitter that goes to the two rear wheels).
Got to do that to my Ranger too.

Looked at it last night and it has a strange type of equalizer. There is a large spring (underneath the truck) that provides back tension for the pedal. You do not have to remove the pedal to install the new cable.
After you pull it up from underneath, and the spider clip is secured, the cable should wrap around the pedal cam in the cable guide and the end should pop right into the hole.
The only place for adjustment is at the brake shoe itself. Looks like the whole project should take an hour.
I found NAPA had the best price only $19.69 versus $23.07 at Advance. Didn't check AZ.

Finished.

It took more than an hour to install. You'll have to remove the rear wheels and drums and remove the auto-adjusters to get enough slack to connect the cables together. Make sure the pedal is all the way up. Also, when fishing the new cable under the dash area, be careful with the end of the cable as your fuse block is in that general area also. And don't forget to re-install the pedal hold-back spring under the truck.
