Bought a 2006 Ranger 3.0 last year and hit the 100k mark so started doing some maintanance yesturday. I put new plugs and wires. While changing the plugs I noticed one side do be well worn and the other side seemed to be in decent shape?
Is it possible the previous owner replaced one side of spark plugs on the engine?
It was the spark plugs on the fuel injecter side that were very worn. I found all six plugs were easy to replace on this 3.0 sure not sure why and if someone would do only one side.
Anway I'm no pro, so thought someone could give me an explanation. As far as I can guess this must mean either only one side was changed before or one side of the engine works harder.

Where the worn plugs Champions per chance ?

They were all motocraft platinum's. I am to assume that these have been changed in the past as I thought 2006 Ranger's came with irridium plugs?

But I would still like my previous question answered. Why is one side of plugs worn so much more?

Oem plugs have a paint on the tip (wire side). You could check that to see if the worn 3 were originals...

Possible previous head issue... Fixed only the minimum...
Possible previous fuel trim issue from faulty O2 sensor...
Possible previous catalytic issue...

Honestly, you'll probably never know. I could go on and on with scenarios of why... Just fix it right and move on.

Although there is a possibility there is something wrong. Do you still have the plugs, and can you take a good picture of all the electrodes together?

I would guess it has something to do with the polarity difference on that side. On one side the plug fires out of the electrode, the other fires into the electrode.

I read that Ford had issues on some of the 4.6's and actually put copper plugs on one side, and platinums on the other.
