I can pick up a set of PI heads for $100 used or just under $800 new.
Slow small block Fords huh? Don't tell that to my Bronco on 36's that still blows away most Mustangs and even................... wait....................................... a Ranger with a 350.
id like to know who said i bought brand new heads?.... i forgot to mention that im 16 built and put in a 355 in an '87 camaro that runs mid 9's allday... so figure out who your trying to put down before you say anything. ok Big & Gay Automotive?
Now to all who are knocking this kid for his change of mind. listen, the motor he wanted to put in there is huge and takes alotta mods to get in there. plus it weighs a lot. and it is more expensive to build up then an average 302 or sbc. so he wants to go fast for cheap, small block chevy is the best choice.
What blower or how big of a shot are you running in dream land or is it naturally aspirated.
Also no one said you were buying new heads just trying to point out they are not as expensive are you belive them to be. Big & Gay Automotive is right up there with "your mom" I should paint the walls of my shop pink just like your house to fit the name huh? Your maturity or lack of rather and inability to refute anything I have posted is very very entertaining
No one is knocking him for his choice just giving him some better information so next time he is hanging out with a group of people who actually know what they are talking about he dosent look like a complete idoit.
For you to say it is going to be more expensive to build a ford is a complete opinion rather than fact. It all depends on how you want to build it what parts you choose and lucky deals you may come across, thats with any motor. That is the point I am trying to get across and aparently it has come across deaf ignorant ears. Actually an "average" SBC weighs more then a 2 valve 4.6 by 45 pounds and over 100 if the 4.6 is an aluminum block check your facts.
WHY DO YOU ARGUE WITH PEOPLE IT MAKES NO SENSE. YOUR BEDROOM IS PINK AND YOU HAVE ALL YOUR MOTOR STUFF THERE AS WELL. WHICH MEANS YOUR LIFE IS AN EPIC FAILURE. AFTER ALL THIS YELLING AT YOU I THINK YOU DESERVE ONE OF THESE![]()
i understand that everyone here is a diehard ford fan, and chevy is a 4- letter word around these parts.
but saying that you could walk all over a nicely build 350 in a ranger without having substantial mods to a sbf, is b.s. a typical 350 puts out 250 horse, (yes i know the 80's were down to 160 but we dont talk about them) now a standard 302 nothing special is about 200 horse. and im taking this right off of http://allfordmustangs.com

Why is it that the 302 is compared to a 350? How about comparing a 350 to a 351, or is that one extra cubic too much for comparison?
I'm always asking myself that question. A 302 should be compared to a 305, a 351 should be compared to the 350, and the 454 should be compared to the 460. Just like that LS 6.2 should be compared to the new 6.0 Boss.
If I only had one Ford and it was a OBD1 Ranger, I would have no problem throwing in a 327. Having too many Fords that all the part interchange makes switching motor brand to a Cheby too hard. Not fair comparing a Ford 302 to a Cheby 305 or 307, do it with their Z-28 302. Think Ford had to come out with their Boss 302 to compete on road courses with the Z motor.I'm always asking myself that question. That's not true at all, I am sure most have actually owned and built just more than Ford engines (including myself). It's one thing when you've only dealt with Chevy engines, and another when you've messed around with other things. In the end it is pretty much all of the same. Why is it that the 302 is compared to a 350? How about comparing a 350 to a 351, or is that one extra cubic too much for comparison?
