changed my mind

and i spent $600 on race heads with 208 valves for a chevy 350... i spent 1200 on my whole engine and your jerkin it with 2000 dollar heads

oh sorry not quite 15k but more like 8K... sean hyland dohc race heads...
http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/1996-04_Mustang-CylinderHeads_Camshafts_Components.shtml

And what possible use would you have for those? You wouldnt know how to build a motor capable of spinning high enough to utilize those heads. I am sure there are very very expensive full race ported heads also for SBC also. You dont always have to have the most expensive parts to have a very powerful build, that is a very naive assumption.

Those were just an example not what I would actually use fool

I can pick up a set of PI heads for $100 used or just under $800 new.

And if you would have read better you would have seen this. Used is sometimes just as good as brand new, great deals can be found on ebay, craigslist etc. Even for new unused heads that someone maybe such as your self purchased in the hopes of one day putting together a running motor but gave up due to lack of determination to learn and sheer ignorance.

Sorry for double post

id like to know who said i bought brand new heads?.... i forgot to mention that im 16 built and put in a 355 in an '87 camaro that runs mid 9's allday... so figure out who your trying to put down before you say anything. ok Big & Gay Automotive?

Slow small block Fords huh? Don't tell that to my Bronco on 36's that still blows away most Mustangs and even................... wait....................................... a Ranger with a 350.

:stop: hold the phone buddy. dont be knocking on chevys. i understand that everyone here is a diehard ford fan, and chevy is a 4- letter word around these parts. but ya gotta give credit where credit is due.

Now mind you, im in no way shape or form knocking ford. some of the best engine designs out there are ford built. but saying that you could walk all over a nicely build 350 in a ranger without having substantial mods to a sbf, is b.s. a typical 350 puts out 250 horse, (yes i know the 80's were down to 160 but we dont talk about them) now a standard 302 nothing special is about 200 horse. and im taking this right off of http://allfordmustangs.com

im done with that discussion.

Now to all who are knocking this kid for his change of mind. listen, the motor he wanted to put in there is huge and takes alotta mods to get in there. plus it weighs a lot. and it is more expensive to build up then an average 302 or sbc. so he wants to go fast for cheap, small block chevy is the best choice.

i wont argue the aftermarket availibility for the ford motors though. i still love the sound of a well built 289/302/351 motor. but they are for the most part more expensive to built than a standard chevy motor. so he wants a chevy, big deal, its his truck, he can do whatever he wants. so what if he doesnt know what prices are on the motor he was building. what matters is he does the swap, learns from it, has fun, and has a v8 ranger. after all, isnt that what its all about.

:bsflag: What blower or how big of a shot are you running in dream land or is it naturally aspirated.

Also no one said you were buying new heads just trying to point out they are not as expensive are you belive them to be. Big & Gay Automotive is right up there with "your mom" I should paint the walls of my shop pink just like your house to fit the name huh? Your maturity or lack of rather and inability to refute anything I have posted is very very entertaining :icon_rofl:

No one is knocking him for his choice just giving him some better information so next time he is hanging out with a group of people who actually know what they are talking about he dosent look like a complete idoit.

For you to say it is going to be more expensive to build a ford is a complete opinion rather than fact. It all depends on how you want to build it what parts you choose and lucky deals you may come across, thats with any motor. That is the point I am trying to get across and aparently it has come across deaf ignorant ears. Actually an "average" SBC weighs more then a 2 valve 4.6 by 45 pounds and over 100 if the 4.6 is an aluminum block check your facts.

i would have to say if a guy wanted a gm engine an ls would be the best choice, in this case a 6.2.

at least looking at the stated specs of this planned monster.
then at least you could actualy drive it.

b&g, from your posts and especially the topic of this thread i think you got off a little harsh out of the gate those first few posts.

it appears you have a unique situation though, so 4.6 definatly fall to your favor as compared to most of us.

i look forward to your input and experience for those that choose to use this powertrian. some of the shit posted here took away from that.

i definatly appreciate hands on experience and solid help for the preverbial "ol poor boy ". low dollar advice towards 4.6 builds is definatly needed as the mod motors will likely be in favor for many as they will be easier to get with low miles so enthusiests wont have to rebuild right away. that keeps swap costs in reach of most right there in itself.

though i would definatly do a ls over a mod motor for simple cost to benefit reasons, that is if i had to do a late model emmissons compliant swap.

but i am no purist be any stretch.

but many will be.

so i for one hope you have time to help the ones that need the 4.6 advice.

looking forward to your irs/mod build:icon_thumby: i seen a ranger with a vic front frame section grafted to it once with stretched fenders. pretty neat deal. if it had the irs it would have been even cooler.

That's not true at all, I am sure most have actually owned and built just more than Ford engines (including myself). It's one thing when you've only dealt with Chevy engines, and another when you've messed around with other things. In the end it is pretty much all of the same. Why is it that the 302 is compared to a 350? How about comparing a 350 to a 351, or is that one extra cubic too much for comparison?

I'm always asking myself that question. A 302 should be compared to a 305, a 351 should be compared to the 350, and the 454 should be compared to the 460. Just like that LS 6.2 should be compared to the new 6.0 Boss.

6.2 compares to a 351 for packaging...pretty much a strker 350/351

regardless the ls makes the rest look bad.

sourcing a truck 6.0 and a boss 6.0 really puts it in perspective dollar for dollar and actual availability.

i will take an ls thank you.

If I only had one Ford and it was a OBD1 Ranger, I would have no problem throwing in a 327. Having too many Fords that all the part interchange makes switching motor brand to a Cheby too hard. Not fair comparing a Ford 302 to a Cheby 305 or 307, do it with their Z-28 302. Think Ford had to come out with their Boss 302 to compete on road courses with the Z motor.
What's up with a Boss 6.0 anyway? I know Ford had toyed with adding two more cylinders to the 4.6, coming up with a Boss 351, showed up in a couple magazines.

look, im just getting sick and tired of everyone ragging on chevy and calling this guy an idiot. ok so compare a 351 to a 350 for all i care. and just to let you know, ive built more than on ford engine and more than one chevy engine so when i post, i know from personal experiance, not just something written on the internet.

eveyones opinion of chevy comes for the one car or truck you owned that was a pos, needed everything, and gave you hell. but along camew the one ford that just happened to be a good runner, and screw chevy it where its at, ford rules.

WELL LET ME TELL YOU GUYS SOMETHING, IM FRIGGIN SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE CHEVY COMMENTS FROM IDIOTS WHO DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE FROM A MONKEY WRENCH AND A FLAT HEAD. YOU WANNA RAG ON CHEVYS WITH YOU BUDDIES, BY GAWD GO WEAR YOURSELF OUT. BUT DONT KNOCK A KID WHO WANTS TO DO THIS TO HIS TRUCK.

on that note, im out. peace
