I was needing plugs for my old '87 Ranger 4 banger. So I did my research, and since my truck uses SOME oil, I need copper plugs, could not justify the fancier types nowdays.

So I go to NAPA, and tell them I need copper, the cheap ones, and he gets some Champion plugs, alright cool.

So I went home, inspected the plugs, and one had the outer ground that was literally mis-set welded to the main steel body, it was offset by 1mm and the Gap was way off.

So 1 out of 4 plugs were bad! I also noticed the Champion plugs had more thread on it, compared to the old plugs in the motor(autolite copper cores) but the Champions seated just fine, THEN for the test drive I got engine noise in my AM/FM radio!!!!

(I only installed three plugs, and left the 4th old plug in, I did not install that defective plug)

So today I finally got some Autolites and changed the plugs, the radio noise is gone. The Champions have a silver plating on the metal parts, and on one plug the nipple that the spark plug snaps onto was loose, had to screw it tight, but the autolite plugs are a black plated steel.

Um, Champion plugs are junk. I know this because Jeep recommends them as the replacement for the OEM plug.

Motorcraft or Autolite ONLY in a Ford engine. Nothing else works quite right.

I respectfully disagree. There's a set of Bosch Platinums (the ORGIONAL single plat version) in my truck and the work great!

Try that in a duraspark or TFI system. I bet they won't work nearly as well.

I'll be the odd one out LOL.

NGK V-Power. Before our BII acted up last week with what appears to be a FPR issue? 20 mpg using NGK's V-Power series. Added bonus, they are not that spendy.

No kidding. Learned that lesson after changing mine.

Old trade secert that most forget, check the heat range of the spark plugs. Bosch seem to be a hotter plug and Autolite/Motorcraft seem to be a colder plug.

motorcraft or autolite, the same thing almost. except motorcraft changed their plugs so i got 4 of the old and 2 new.

ya i cant even begin to explain how much i HATE champion. i ahd them in msot of my small engines and they all ran like aboslute shit. put some NGK;s in and they run great now.

Motorcraft FTW.

All I've ever used in any Ford I've owned, after learing the hard way.

And yes, Champion plugs are crap.

I may be an idiot for asking, but what type is on my '94 2.3 dual-plug set-up?

Neither. Your 94 is a EDIS (or DIS for Short) which tend to not reject the higher heat range plugs the way the older ones do.

Can you buy Motorcraft spark plugs anywhere else besides the Dealers serivce Department?

I know you can get the Motorcraft oil filters at different places, is the spark plugs a dealer only item?

autolite is the same thing as motorcraft, it's to ford as AC Delco is to GM...
