haha kingsley is up in susquehanna county, which is the last county you go through if your goin up 81N before you hit new york state. bout...3 hours north of york:)

We used to go to Potter County during hunting season - YEARS ago (mid 80's).

Yes seriously - my first ever FG build. :yahoo: The dash was my true first, but I just overlaid FG onto a formed surface to reinforce/repair, not a true build, more of a modification:icon_welder:. So thanks again - making me want to try more - like door panels with 6" mids, and tweets in some pillar pods, oh and . . . . damn it see what you did . . . . . . :icon_rofl:

Hey how do u think the Hammered paint would look with painting the rest of the int pieces? mine are very worn and scratched was thinking maybe painting them a similiar color if I could?

woww, you is a good ole' boy ain't ya;) jk lol but seriously what made you decide to go to texas then?

and again, thats just awesome. btw on the dash did you take the vinyl off? or did you just fg over it?

its a good thing I'm not ready to do this part of my truck yet, I get more time to learn about it lol.

LOL - HEY! :icon_confused: HUH? :icon_rofl:

Military: USAF 10 yrs Firefighter. Got out in 95 and stayed here . . . Warmer

I took what was left of the dry rotted vinyl and laid the fiberglass over the foam core. No the resin did not attack the foam.

ooo, ok..thas a pretty good reason lol.

hmm..I seeee..just to be sure though did you mean that you took "off" what was left of the rotted vinyl? or do you mean you took it as in you just left it alone? sorry, the questions dumb but I wanna make sure I get it right lol.

No problem - I REMOVED ALL of the black vinyl with a metal putty knife/scraper. Most of it came right off - some needed a bit more work to release. Not hard, just a bit tedious in some of the tight spots.

Here is my build of the dash SO FAR . . . still needs to be finished - I will be wrapping it in a special vinyl when I buy the shit - $23 a yard . . .

k thanks, I was thinkin thats what you meant but I wanted to make sure. Thats good news lemme tell ya lol. My ranger dash is startin it a little bit, mainly in the back and I was all paranoid about it but now I think I'm just gonna let it go so I can tear it all apart:icon_twisted:

thanks for the link btw, I bookmarked it lol. It sounds like a pretty simple process, just very time consuming, right?

You're welcome - it is not that difficult if you take your time and make sure you have no bubbles forming, the are weak spots. That is why I used a lot of the CSM (Chopped Strand Mat) so I could get it to lay into the tight spots. There are other products out there such as Micro-Spheres and Milled Fibers that you can make a FG paste and fill in corners or between the edges of panels. If I do my Ranger dash, I am going to blend in my airbag panel for the passenger - no bag under it ( and NO not one behind it either smart asses :icon_rofl:).

When you start start a build thread . . .:icon_welder:

yea deffinitely, that pretty much speaks for itself though. gotta watch out in every job like that. I've been restoring my sims snowboard and I sanded all the paint off and started from scratch and I had to be careful of the same things. And thanks for lettin me know bout all that stuff, sounds like there's no way anyone can say its impossible to fix whatever's wrong with their fg app lol. And that sounds awesome, I'd love to see that:D

haha deff will, deff will.

i started to build one the other day but i have had to put it on hold for a min....

How did you shape your mold so cleanly? Mine doesnt look bad, but it is a far cry from the crispiness of yours...

TAKE PICTURES - LOL

I rough shaped the foam with a disposable razor knife (the break-off blade type) and then got out the 40 grit, 50, 60, 80, 150 and so on until I had a smooth base in the foam. Then I applied my dry wall mud with filler on top of that for a firmer surface. Sanded those down to a respectable finish but not smooth since I was covering OVER the surface not using it to make a mold from that would make the part. :icon_confused: Think I just confused myself.

I made a plug to form my final part over, the outer surface of my plug did not need to be perfect since that surface would be on the inside of the part. If you make a plug to make a mold, the plug needs to be as good as if not better than the finished part. Painted and polished, then waxed and mold release applied - then apply glass to the inside of the mold to make final part.

Hope that helps - had to re-read it a few times . . . good luck
