Center Console Build

Aight coo I'll prolly do the 1 gallon thing too and charge friends when I help them do there shit. Friend has a 240sx or w/e in dire need of some attn. showed em some work on planes I did he was pretty blown away lol. Some customers try n fab stuff and end up butchering stuff so I'm stuck patching old dash panels that you cant get any more QQ. I just smile and turn up the musac and go to town :P look forward towards getting the rest of the stuff. I found some huge chunks of blue foam like yours I want to get. so the body filler can be used to smooth the foam when done right? have yet to make anything from scratch like this so I'm kinda new. I greatly appreciate the help btw

doing this work isnt hard. just takes a little bit of knowledge and know how.

just make sure that you have a good foundation/mold/or frame that your building. its always about the prep work that makes the project

Ya just haven't made a mold at all ever so I just shape it then use the filler to make it smooth right I gotta look at Hazmat write up again lol. I'm sure I could figure it out lol just wana ask these ?s before I get started lol. That body filler you recommended will work for smoothing out the mold right? hmmm

Xploda - DO NOT put the filler directly on the foam, the resin will melt it. I put down dry wall mud first and then body filler. ALSO make sure you put something over the filler to act as a release agent so the FG does not stick to the filler. I have seen the plugs/molds painted and polished smooth and then waxed. use a spray on substance PVA, aluminum foil with spray adhesive to hold in place, or even painters tape like I did.

PS - to those reading this if you missed it go back and check out my video of the sub in action - not the best vid but it is cool . . .

JFC DUDE LOL. ya that's what I'm talking about. just wasn't sure how to prep the mold for glassing. tmrw I'm going to remove my console and look for some buckets for the back I might just ditch the sub idea in the back console. BUT maybe not I just thought while looking at 83bagged old photobucket maybe I could remove my door speakers in back and add my 6x9s to the center console on the back of the center console facing forward or somthin. I'll draw it up and see what you guys think lol. WICKED fuckin int dude lol ya more ideas now I better buy this shit in bulk lmfao :P

Nice work 83 - seems you have a tad experience with FG - LOL Thanks also for the additional pointers, besides my 240 dash - still in progress, this was my first full FG project from scratch. I have also been commissioned to do another dash - getting a 5 speed kit for the 240 in trade.
Xploda - Rock it man - but I would try to avoid the 6X9 route, get some 6" or 8" mids to go with one or two subs and then some tweets and round out your system. I have been following a bunch of builds on that forum I mentioned and they have some awesome builds and info on systems and components.

Check out the video!!

The 6x9s are from my old yota I spent like 250$ on em lol there just sittin around lol >< ok so 8s? keep in mind theses would replace my back door speakers, and I just checked full size seats will fit in back just gotta find some nice ones to throw in back and then to see how much space I have to work with..maybe some matching explorer seats would be nice I need new front ones too mine are so worn :( it'd be coo to find 2 matching pairs of blue power seats. would just have to wire em in and shizam done lol

Wow, great job Hazmat. Gives me some great ideas for the alum console V2.0 in my Ranger.
Not that that is happening before the new seats go in.

Thanks man - keep us posted on yours - let's see pics of V1.0 if you have any.

hey how'd you get the hammered metal texture and the grainy texture on the dash? are those some sort of special paints? if so where can we find em?

On the 240 Dash I used Rustoleum Brand Textured paint, almost any spray paint retailer will have it. I got brown, but it will be painted over if I don't wrap the dash in vinyl.
As for the console, again Rustoleum Brand Hammered Metal spray paint - couple different colors available. I got mine at Ace Hardwarem but HD, Lowes, and Walmart all sell it also.

oh ok, wow I like that, the inexpensive way lol. you didn't use the rattle can tho did you? I ask because I don't see any tiger striping so what'd you do to get around that? regular can and a spray gun?

No sir that is rattle can all the way.

Once I get about two coats on it I will move the can back about 12 - 18 inches and do a mist layer over the wet coat. That helps to remove any lines from overlap. It is very important to use caution and light coats spraying with this type of texture including metal flake paints. They can quickly show overlap and tiny runs. Also a good spray can will have a fan pattern and not the circular one - that is what causes most lines.

:icon_surprised: it is a rattlecan....

:headbang:awwwesome man, I salute your high shkillz. I personally think your project turned out to be prolly the best I've ever seen (dash included). Hopefully I'll be able to build one of my own, thanks for the advice and intro:D
