Cell phone question?

Apple products are an acquired "taste"

Their end to end business model rubs some people the wrong way, me for one, lol, just because I have dealt with older companies that had the same end to end model and it was always a pain when sourcing parts or solutions

What end to end means is that a companies product is made in a way that it only works well with that companies other products
iPhones Bluetooth can be an issue, because Apple doesn't own bluetooth, so would prefer if people didn't use it
They were stuck with WiFi but still don't like it
If Apple makes a product like wireless headphones then it will make sure other brands wireless headphones have issues connecting to an iPhone, just little irritations, so when there is a complaint they can suggest trying Apple headphones, and then laying the blame on the "poor quality" of other brands headphones, its not true but what can you do about it, not a thing

Its not a "bad" thing for the company, just the consumer, because the company can say they are doing it because of security control or quality control, they want end to end compatibility, which is not a "bad" thing

It would be like having to use a Ford 12volt battery in your Ford car or truck, some would only use a Ford Battery and be happy about that
Others may want another brand, but it would only start the engine 9 out of 10 times, because its not a Ford Battery, an irritation, and it would eventually start, complaint would be answered by "have your tried a Ford battery?"
Yes, ridicules example, but the point is valid

I think APPLE makes good products, just don't like what comes with them
Yes, good explanation. Same reason i dont use them.

My biggest bitch with the iphone i had was the tiny keyboard.

I have "fat fingers" and can't text on most phones, I use "speech to text" and it works fairly well most of the time, but does make some funny mistakes now and then, I try to read it before I hit Send, lol

I have one of those!

I used to back when they were relatively new. It was won in a contest, I didn't pay the high cost that they demanded at the time.

Most of my texts would have way to much "####" in them if i used that. I downloaded an aftermarket keyboard for this one thats big.

In real life or pictures....
Real life... my grandparents had one in the back room. No one ever made calls from that phone (that I know of), it had a long cord and was just brought outside in case they got a call while we were in the pool.

I still had one in use untill 2011

as for sim cards.... I do think like RonD said that most sim cards are interchangeable. But.... there are like 4 different physical sizes of Sim card. so if your old phone has the big size and the new one has smaller, you will need a new sim card and have it programmed to match the old one.

Carriers.... I know Verizon has different type of carrier (CDMA) than AT&T, so those phones even with the sim card swap will not work on other networks. Verizon didn't even use sim cards until 2011 or so (my first Android phone did not have one) Most of the other carriers used the same type of technology and should interchange.

iPhones and Apple.... I hate Apple's business model. the whole you gotta buy certified Apple accessories and only Apple can fix their products is crappy anti consumer model. Someone put it this way: "Apple is not a tech company, they are an art company. if you view them as such a lot of their business model and what they do makes a lot more sense." take for example the 1000 dollar monitor stand for their monitor/ computer combo that if you wanted the stand you had to buy it extra. it was a milled block of aluminum. One thousand freakin' bucks.

There is an adapter to fit the small sim into place of the bigger one.

yeah, going the other way though... and my guess is that since his phone is so old, he will probably have the larger sim card.
