Cobra_FF_2.JPG

anyways, tonight i hooked up the antenna, power, and ground. i dont have my mic yet so i got my buddy to go out in his truck and call me and figured i should at least be able to hear him through the speaker. but nothing? and i cant even hear the squelch(spelling?) i highly doubt the speaker is broke because my dad used to have it in both his western star and then in the freightliner. is there anything i am missing?
thanks

Do you have all the settings right?? Did you calibrate it yet?? Did you buy it new, or used?? If you bought it used, the PO might have disconnected the internal speaker and installed an external speaker...

You HAVE to have a mic to be able to hear anything... at least that's how my Midland was... I tried the same, and when I took the mic out, couldn't hear a thing. Try it again when you get a mic and see what happens.

That would be pointless and ignorant because the Cobra 29's, and almost all newer CB's, have an external mic jack in the back, so no need to unplug anything.

like i said, my dad used it in a couple of his big rigs and worked fine for him.

Yes, but my I have a galaxy 99 (with the ouput on the back) and when I got mine of a trucker it was disconnected from the inside, I had to re-connect it...Couldn't tell you why that was done to it...

Are you sure its not on P.A and is on C.B? and if you have the auto squelch on (if your cb has that) You wont hear anything when you turn the squelch down.

The Cobra 29 doesn't have dynamic squelch

Cobra 29 + no mic = no sound thru speaker.

(speaker circuit is completed through the microphone PTT switch)

Thanks dude, I found a mic tonight that my great grandfather had in his 75 camaro, real piece of history. It's a 4 prong so it should work. Will update tonight. P.S. iPads rock!

Squelch is right there on the image of the radio he has. Its an external knob around the volume knob. Turn the squelch all the way clockwise, then back counterclockwise right til it goes silent. Thats roughly where you want it. Without your handmike you wont hear anything, unless you turn it to monitor. CB's are best used with external speakers anyways. Truckers unplug the internal speaker when peak-and-tuning their radios, its less of a drain when your trying to maximize power.

Thats a nice radio boggin. Get you a powermike if you havent found one already, that and a 4 ft whip (preferably K-40) will put you right in the sweetspot when tuned. I would take it to a CB shop itll cost you right about 50 bux +or- for a peak and tune, but will up your wattage quite a bit.

Has to have a mic plugged in i've noticed on everyone i've used you won't hear anything or it'll be real quiet

x2 thats a must... high swr's can mess up the radio
