Have any of you installed a CB Radio into your 08' Ranger?

could you tell me exactly where I should connect power to it?

I did it in my 88, and I just grounded it to the body, and got power from the fuse box with an accessory port.

Might I ask what antenna you are running? I am in the market for a new one that is not a mag mount and would like to know what others are running.

I know it will take more wire and makes you run the wires through the Firewall BUT the best way to hook up a CB is directly to the battery.
If only the CB will be powered from this lead:
1) Run a blk (ground -) and red (power +) 16-ga wires directly to the battery.
2) Twist the wire so there are 10 turns per foot.
3) Add an In-Line Fuse to the Red Power Wire + (2 or 3 amps max).
4) If you can locate a couple of Toroids, add about a foot of wire and wrap the extra wire through the Toroids as many time as possible (this MAY help with the noise generated in the Fords electrical System and again it may not; that is why it is called electrical theory).

The Antenna Mount should be grounded to the Frame using an additional ground wire or braided strap.

go cheap and get a cigarette lighter plug in that hooks to the back of the cb; although you dont get as much power it still works great

Do you want a quick cheap hook up or a more long term, permanent type hook up ?

You've thrown out a pretty generic question there so you'll get lots of answers. Scrambler82's advice sounds like the best possible way to do it-that's how I'll be doing mine...

But if you just want fast and easy, the bezel around the stereo can be removed and you can splice into the cigarette lighter's power quite easily.

It is best to wire it to the battery. Cigarette lighter hookups and such can cause unwanted interference that the radio will pick up on. I ran my CB from the cab to the stud at the engine relay/fuse box. There are two studs there that are straight to the battery, easy to hook up too.

On a little bit of a side note, what is a decent model CB radio? I was looking at the Cobra 19 Ultra III. From what i've read so far is it's ok for a basic and beginner set up, I want something sturdy that has good range and will last a while. Any thoughts? Is the large antenna necessary also? And where could that be mounted, in the bed?

DON'T GET THAT COBRA! they aren't that great if you want a decent radio look around at auctions I picked up a couple really good ones and if you want to ask around or buy one head here they'll set you up with some really good deals and answer ANY questions you'll have about cb's

I am posting this but it may be not useful...

i have found in the past that the Uniden Radios to be just about the best overall radio for standard CB use.
the Pro 510 and 520 are good compact units and work well for trail use and will be OK on the street too.
Uniden has a lot of CB with any number of bells and whistles.

But remember, Belden Coax not Rat shaq and good Amphenol Connectors.
