so i was thinking i want to put a light duty diesel into my ranger and i want something american not german so i thought cat i logged on to their official site and saw the 3.4 line and was wondering if this would work in my truck. obviously i would need to find a way to boost the horsepower up from 75. and i'll swap out the tranny and front axle. but i was wondering if i could keep my t-case and rear axle. i drive a 1994 4.0 4x4 with an 8.8 limited slip rear the t-case is the stock one so i think is a borg-warner but im not sure. if anyones done this before let me know any info would be great. im also looking for where to buy such an engine i live in south florida.

looks like you live in fla, so finding a nice little perkins from a boat should be doable in short order and reasonably priced, and some sort of turbo.....should be cost effective at that size... and getting to a gm trans should be fairly easy through acme adapters.

a 4 cyl cat from a boat may be a lil harder to do.

it would be cool though:icon_thumby:

i dont think you would need to upgrade the axles either under 170 hp and 300 pounds of tq.

but going sas may be the only way to easily fit a cat 4 whizzer. i would have to look at some in person to figure that out though.

Are you talking about the C3.4? I work for a CAT dealer and could get you more answers about this engine.

1400 pounds

wow.

my junk already weighs 3500 plus on the front axle

my mom works a the miami distribution center so i was gonna ask her to see if she could find out where i could get an engine
