Figured a cheap little catch can might be a good idea for my 2.8. Doesn't burn oil, but it is 30 years old. My question is: does it go on the PVC side or on the side with the breather tube that goes up to the air cleaner? Seems like I'd be getting blowby out of both?

Both. But if you relieve pressure from the PCV it will help on both so you may not need to do the valve cover initially. If you can run two lines into one catch can it's better...or put in two of them...

Stay away from separators unless you buy the correct one...I tried using the ones for compressors and they did not have the correct filter so it kept backing up and compounding the problem...but if you don't have oil blowing out you wouldn't need them and can probably use just a catch can.

If you go that route and you get good results it would be nice to see a writeup if you have time...there are many 2.3 owners going through the same thing and I tried making the parts...but there were always problems due to the filters clogging up.

Thanks. That's kinda what I figured. I'll pick one up and see what happens.

Install between PCV Valve and intake.

Vent hose(breather) mostly pulls fresh air in, at higher RPMs, so more blow-by and less vacuum in intake, the Vent hose can relieve pressure by allowing an exit for the blow-by, but air cleaner housing will act as a "catch can" so you can see if oil vapor is being expelled there fairly easily.

Yes, separators are not worth while, you need a larger surface area for oil vapor to condense on, catch can with mesh screens inside have lots of surface area.

Google PCV jar and then build yourself one...did so a decade or more ago and put it on my 90 F150 with straight 6...caught a lot of crap. All you need is a keeper can, a mason jar with screw on lid, some silicone sealer, a couple of threaded coupler pipes (very small), and old OJ concentrate juice can, some BB's, and some gutter screen. You're basically building a PCV bong to put on your truck...but it works good.
