catalytic converter rattle?

so i noticed the other today something was rattleing around when i gassed it so i located that source today and its the cat. idk what happened but i can nock on it and it rattles too, so im going to be gettin a new one, but i dont want to pay over $100 iv done a bit of homework and autozone has THIS ONE and i was wondering if it was any good or is there some other one i can get that is better, and i was wondering about scrapping my old one, i hear they can be worth some money as well.

is it inside the cat thats rattlin or the heat shield.my heat shields rattled and i just put a screw clamp on it and solved the problem

im pretty sure something is broke off up in it, idk what a heat sheild is lol but im sure its inside it

tupeloranger is right that a loose heat shield (the perforated cage that's around the cat) can sound like the cat has something loose on the inside, especially if it's the top part that's loose, broken or rusted. Whe everything is cool, put on a pair of leather gloves to protect your hands and give the cat a healthy shake or bump it with your fist. Happened to me twice - once on my daughter's tempo and once on my ranger. Both times a loose, rusted heat shield. Cats are both still fine.

huh, well knocked on it a couple times with my fist and it did sound internal but i will definatly check it out, but my converter has like 2 sections that are connected and the frst one has a heat sheild but i dont see one on the back one, the one that rattles, unless its just not perferated alot, ill check the top of the sheild when i get home.

awww hell, yall were right, got home checked it out, 3 out of 4 welds were broken on the top so i said the hell with it and broke it off.
hope that dont hurt anything

hey thanks guys i wouldn't have found that for a while if you wouldnt have suggested it, aprecitate it, and the rattle does not sound cool at all, sounds like i just drove out of a jy.

no prob.i put hose clamps on my from one.havent had any problems yet
