Catalytic Converter - good or no good ?

Yup I was right. Just checked the MSDS... It's mostly just acetone and xylene. Hardware store paint thinner.

I get the theory, putting some heavy solvent through something to clean any gunk or residue out. And xylene and acetone are excellent solvents. But they are not going through the cat as a solvent. its being completely burnt and going through as post combustion gasses. How does that clean the cat? Especially being diluted at a 60:1 ratio or more.

He used a gallon in it, I'm not sure how full the tank was, then he drove it on the highway a couple hours iirc

Cataclean comes by the quart so I was going by that. Even at 100% it's still being burnt not washing through the cat in liquid form...

Hmm now wait a minute. I'm not so sure about that.

Literary cracking open the petrochem book on this one, but xylene does some reeeeeeeeely weird shit when in petroleum distillates and under pressure. Gasoline is a distillate, ethanol is a methyl group alcohol. Have watched 2500ft of ice come screaming out of the earth on a hot July day from 6000 ft underground due to a xylene and methanol injection under 9600psi. Yes, have pics, did happen.

Conditions are similar. Alcohol, xylene, distillates, compression, hydrostatic force, differential pressure, atomization of a cornucopia of alcohols, hydrocarbons, fawking scourge of life xylene, and acetone as a wildcard.... And then you introduce oxygen and spark... Nah, you're going to get some really cool combustion by-products. I need to do math, but something tells me carbon (haha) or tar solvent. Or heavy etching agent that erodes what's left of a scorched converter by dumping something horrible to it. Will report back

If not most likely horrible like any barrs product.

Off chance that it's a real - sort of like a moly additive, or application appropriate high zinc blend, may actually do something extremely application specific only works half the time sort of thing.

Anyone look at the ingredients?

I did at the time and did some research. I remember it sounded reasonable and even if it didn't clean the cats enough for the emissions test it would be a good fuel system cleaner. Kind of pricey for routine use and I like Techron, HotShots or BG44k depending upon what's on sale.

I prefer leftover hot dog water mixed with a tiny bit of cesium 137 and the contents of 42 used blue glow sticks. Cleans the fuel system to the cats and is 100% safe on the o2 sensors.
