Cat T50 Lift Truck problems

We just purchased two used T50 lift trucks. They both have around 5-6000 hours on them.

Both have the 1404 engine. One is running fine; however we suspect that it will need a headgasket or something as it smells like coolant.

The other, will not fire. The propane solenoid valve was replaced with a working unit, the plugs, wires, and distributor cap have been replaced aswell.

Maybe it is off timing? I've found a spec sheet online but we are not sure if the number on cylinder is next to the fan or next to the transmission.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

The spec sheet says the firing order is 1-3-4-2, is this correct? It says the timing is 14* BTDC, is this also correct?
