Over the past couple of years I've noticed that the last few model years of old-style Rangers seem to have been produced with only the all-red center rear stop light above the rear window. None appears to have the cargo lights, which had white lenses at the ends of the center stop light. Just looked at 2011 models in different sites online, and no matter how well equipped, all have the all-red lens. Of course, my 2011 has the same.
The cargo lights had been an option on older Rangers as part of a "light group". Does anyone here have a 2008–2011 Ranger with factory-installed cargo lights, or does anyone have the story on when the option ended?
I would guess that Ford ended the option to simplify production during the years that the St. Paul plant continued to produce the truck. The original plan had been to close the plant around 2008, but it continued to produce Rangers until the end of 2011.
