i really dont think carfax in a valuable tool, you take something that hasnt been to a shop or had a insurance claim made against it, then there isnt going to be any record of a accident. take the taurus i had for example, i fixed it up myself after a minor front end collision, no shop or insurance was involved. therefore there is no record of that incident in existance. even if you did know the whole life story of a vehicle, thats no guarantee it will break down within a year of bringing it home or last for years with no issue. my first ranger had 98,000 miles on it the day i brought it home, i drove it another 100,000 with very few issues. the '93 i have now however had 60,000 on it when i got it, lost 2nd gear in the trans @ 80,000 and has had a few bugs here and there along the way. its somewhere around 130,000 now and id still buy it again despite its issues. if it looks to be in reasonable condition and you keep up with the maintenence on it, theres a fairly good chance it will be of good service.
