carburated or fuel injected? Whats your opinion on on a v8 swap in a 89 4x4 ranger? Is one more difficult than the other?

Since your truck is already set up for it, I vote EFI.

i will reiterate from my post in your other thread
use the "search" function... this has been covered so many times. over, and over again.

carb....no. you can take a 1989 f-150 5.0 computer and plug it ino your current 2.9 harness. then it is just a matter of lengthening 2 or 3 wires. and splicing in another 2 injector connectors and you are done. an efi 5.0.

i kid you not, it would be as much or more work to stick in a carbed motor. don't do it

efi offers better reliability, power, and fuel mileage. the only things that should still have carbs are dirt bikes and lawn equipment haha

yall can take all that efi and shove it i got my 302 HO in my ranger carbed and its much easier to deal with especially in the woods. not having to worry about mud and water messing up a sensor and my truck running like crap i got a sealed HEI and holley 650 4bbl weiand stealth alum intake no problems and there isnt a whole bunch of crap under my hood

if u wanna spend the money on a truck avenger carb from holly i guess they work good lol thats what i would do but efi might be easy too

depends on what you like to do.

at the extreme ends of areas i frequented only way your truck would keep up with mine when it was an efi gasser is if i was dragging you. the d28 wouldnt make it up the first waterfall....if your over 220-250 hp.

only reason my truck was a efi v8 is because i got sick of trying to make carbs work where i liked to go. its pathetic. but i have multi use as the goal.

you have to really build carefully with a carb and high camber stuff. its easily enough done but comes at great compromise...depending on the intended usage of the vehicle in question.

marine carbs/truck avengers etc work well....500 cfm carb on a 400 hp build will work awesome...if you like 300 hp performance out of that 400 hp build for the cost of 400...huge fawking difference there.

pretty much personal preference and what one is willing to work with.

They are wanting to make them fuel injected too. :secret:

Which is just great because people already have a cow at a $50 carb overhaul on their couple year old weedhacker...

And that was after the government mandated the oil companies to mix at least 10% ethanol in all their gasolines.:headbang:

What sensor is there on an EFI 302 of any year that would be affected by mud and water and cause your engine to run poorly?

Kinda sorta not really.

Ethonals big problem with two strokes is that a little condensation seperates out the alchohol (which is heavier than gas) with the pickup at the bottom of the tank only sucks it up and this poor little two stroke is now trying to run on pure alchohol... with no oil mix.

We can still get straight 87 and premium, only 89 is E10.

Most carb problems are from storage issues. Darned if you do and darned if you don't, store wet and things gum up, dry and things dry out.

Any connection that is not prepared... just like a carb. I had a no start shortly after I had got mine running because of a bad connection to the dizzy... that same harness worked perfectly with my 2.8 for years. Corrosion and water intrusion are things to be delt with in either system. Clean connections and dialectric grease go a long ways.

The carb problems I've heard of lately are directly attributed to the ethanol in todays fuels. Ethanol is hygroscopic and readily absorbs moisture from the atmosphere, it's the moisture that ends up in the fuel that corrodes things. If you still have conventional 87 and premium, then you can mix your own 89. If your premium is 93 octane then a 35/65 (premium/regular) mix yeilds 89 octane. If the premium is 91, then go 40/60. The refinery we're buying from now makes 87 from 84 octane regular and 91 premium in about a 38/62 mix. Even this gas has some ethanol contrary to what they're telling us, drain some in a catch pan on a humid day and in 5 minutes time it'll turn a milky color.
