car donator?, i need to choise, help!

Hi guys.
i want to start my ranger 1985 proyect, i wish change my 2.3l efi for a 302 carburaded, but i have many motors to choise, and thats the problem.
i supose, i need to buy a motor whit transmition, differential and all the things togheter. serching for the less quantity of problems , but the question is: from which car/truck i need to take these things?
My purpose is make a fast truck to have fun in the weekend.
i read the tech library before post but i cant clear my doubt, so.. anyone can help me to choise a vehicle donator or tell me whats the best car/truck to take that? i want an automatic trasmition 4 speed.
my truck is a ranger 1985 single cab, short bed, 4x2.

an explorer works good and has many parts you can take as extras like the rear 8.8 axle.

F150 works too.

Go here. Select your state, category "all vehicles". Usually you can pick up a complete running car for cheap. Quite often there are many Crown Vics on there. Great donors for engine and trans.

Going to guess that the Crown Vics are surplus. Unless they have been hiding in the back of the lot for 15-20 years they will have the 4.6... which for conversation sake does not fit in a first generation Ranger.

Either a 5.0 (68-01) or 5.8 is what you want. The later the better with Explorer's being the best for a 5.0. The later 5.8's (either 95 or 96) got a roller cam, which is a perk. 5.0's got it hit and miss in the mid 80's, towards the end of the '80's it became much more common.
