getting an error message after avg found and removed virus. getting an error message as

C:\DOCUME`1DELL\LOCALS-1Temp\dwm.exe

dont know much about computers but guessing that the virus or anti virus deleted a file that it needs. Is this something I can fix or need to take it in?

The virus may have set up a proxy server connection or futzed with Windows' DNS settings (DNS resolves web addresses into the numerical IP addresses at which websites are accessed). It may also have set a Hosts file to redirect normal web browsing activity through poisoned webservers.

Here is a Microsoft support page that can help you reset your network settings. If you cannot access the Microsoft website, here are the steps you need to follow:
The reset command is available in the IP context of the NetShell utility. Follow these steps to use the reset command to reset TCP/IP manually:

1. To open a command prompt, click Start and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box and then press ENTER: cmd

2. At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

3. Reboot the computer.
For hosts file problems, I recommend visiting Winhelp2002's Hosts News blog. Download the Feb. 18 hosts.zip link to your desktop and extract the files. Double-click the file named mvps.bat and observe the command prompt window's blue confirmation message. Pressing any key will then close the window; you can then delete the extracted files and the hosts ZIP file.

Hope this helps :icon_cheers:

You could also use ipconfig /flushdns...but I think it's time to shut down avg...use msconfig at the start/run command

click on the Startup tab and click disable all...then click the Services tab and click the box that says "Hide all Microsoft Services" then click Disable all...and click OK and reboot...

If you see the AVG icon in the task bar after you reboot, click it and shut it down then try launching your browser...if it works...you may need to enable the Startup Items one by one till it stops working...else...

You may need professional help...you can try to delete all cookies and history at this point (depending on your browser version)...

If you need more help...let us know what your browser version is and if you have the AVG firewall enabled...

you might check with your IP- sometimes they
shut down your service (if your machine is sending
viruses out) until you call and convince them the
problem is over.

Mark88 followed you tip and error message didnt come up but still wont let me online. it is a wireless router but have connection . looks like it am missing a windows file. might have to just do a reinstall

Hmmmm....

Go to the Command Prompt (Start/Run and type CMD and hit enter) and type ping www.microsoft.com and hit enter...if you get a timeout then you are not going through the router...not connected to the local network...in that case, you need to check your connections and try directly connecting to the router with ethernet (if not already) and test it...

If you don't get a timeout then try typing ipconfig /all and hit enter...you should see a list of things like physical address...dhcp enaled (y or n)
look at your IP address and write it down...and post it if you need further help...

but at that point you can also try ipconfig /release and then right away ipsconfig /renew (this renews your ip address on the computer...often works with wireless connections, but not always)...

Kind of sounds like your virus wrapped itself around an important windows file so when it was removed, away went the file as well. Personally, if you know someone, I'd get the whole thing reformatted. But then, that's my solution to everything.

open browser window, click on tools, click internet options, click advanced, click reset
