I have a 93 Ford ranger 4.0 5 speed 2 wheel drive it won't go over 2,000 RPMs and it shuts off like you turn the key off if you're neutral you can rev it up to like 4,000 RPMs and it shuts off like you turn the key off if you turn the key on and back off before it dies completely down you can rub it up I mean you can blow it up then if you want to it will not run over 2,000 RPMs in gear it just kills itself any ideas

This entire mess as you have written it is difficult to understand. However, some things you may want to investigate are fuel pressure, make sure you have a clean fuel filter, check your fuel pressure regulator and maybe also test the throttle position indicator. Make sure the air filter is clean. Make sure the MAF sensor is clean (there is a special cleaning solution for this. Don't use anything else. You might damage it.) Check for vacuum leaks. Is your air intake plenum in good condition?

Welcome to TRS :)

Change fuel filter first

Next get/borrow a vacuum gauge and hook it up to intake manifold
Start engine, should see 18-21" of vacuum
REV engine to 2,000(approx.) but hold it steady
Watch vacuum gauge(it will drop as you open the throttle, but then come back up if you hold steady RPM)
If its slowly dropping you have a clogged exhaust system
If its slowing going up you have a clogged air intake

Spark plugs
Pull a few out
What do the tips tell you about engine?
Light brown is OK
Dark brown is Rich running
Blackish is oil burning
White is new plug or blown head gasket in that cylinder

I had to change the 3 capacitors in my 1994 4.0l computer 2 years ago, under $5 fix
But symptoms were different than yours

In any case limited RPMs is usually a fuel issue, or partially clogged exhaust
