I am having intermittent problems with my truck running fine one minute, and then spitting & sputtering, losing power the next.
I'm thinking that it might be related to a bad ECM, but I can't locate it on my vehicle.
I called the local Ford Stealership Parts House and they said is was behind the passenger kick panel. I looked there, but no ECM. I looked behind the driver side kick panel, but not there either. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should look next?

Any help would surely be appreciated!

Thanks,
David

On the bulkhead (firewall) on the driver's side....far drivers side bottom. You'll see the monster plug that goes to it.

Yep driverside near the fender. If it turns out you need another one shoot me a PM, I still have mine leftover.

Thanks guys. I'll look there when I get home from work this afternoon.
One more question........ Is there a way to get an ECM tested to see if it is working properly, or should I just try swapping it out with a known "good" one and see if that works?

PCM's are usually replaced as a last resort, because new are so expensive, and usually non-returnable. .

But, yes, replacing it with a known good is about the only good way to determine. But it's usually a broken solder connection that screws up a PCM.

Btw, have you checked the tune up, and other things?

OK, so I went and bought an INNOVA 3145 Code Reader for Fords. So far I've only done the KOEO Self Test, which passed w/ code 111, after which I got the following Stored Memory Codes:
157 = Mass Air Flow Sensor Fault, Low Voltage
211 = Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) Circuit Fault
212 = Loss Of Ignition Diagnostic Monitor Signal/SPOUT Circuit Grounded
536 = Brake On/Off (BOO) Circuit Not Activated During KOER

Do any of you know if 211 & 212 would make my engine do what I described in my original post? (Engine seems to run normally, but once in awhile will start missing and lose power while driving)

I consulted my Haynes manual but it didn't say where the Distributor Ignition Module is located.
Can anyone tell me where it is, and does this sound like it could be my problem?

Any help would surely be appreciated.

Thanks, David C.
