2000 ranger 4x4 the motor is a 3.0 flex with a 4r44e transmission. After 250k miles my engine gave way and blew a head gasket then seized up Number two cylinder was eating up antifreeze and the motor did not like this. After tracking down a flex engine I went through the motor and reworked it.
Had problems turning the engine after bolting the engine up to the trany it was not fully seized but much friction on the breaker bar. I have been reading that the torque converter installed improperly could damage the pump on the transmission. In haste I installed my torque converter improperly and bolted my transmission up to the engine, I cant beleive i did this but I know this is what happened.
The questions are
How do i determine if there is any pump damage? before proceeding on this project.
Do I remove the bell housing or can I put the transmission in neutral and feel on the pump shaft if not operating properly?
Thanks for your time.
