I've been wanting to lift my truck and I just learned about so many ways to do it so I'm not sure which way to go. I was thinking about coils and coil spacers for the front and for the back I'd use blocks. I was looking into kits and they all come with spindles but I can't afford the spindles and I wanna go the cheap way with coils and spacers. would I need an alignment and new shocks if I did this and got a 4 or 5 inch lift?

well. yes you would need new shocks. and you do need to get an alignment every time you change the ride height, but 4-5 inches of lift is impossible to get back into spec with out all the necessary drop brackets and such.
so you are going to have to spend more money than you want but it will be worth it in the end

Yeah if you want that much lift you pretty much have to buy an actual lift kit.

alright well I wanna fit 33's and I'm not sure how much lift is needed. I don't wanna do a body lift so thats why I was thinking spacers and coils but maybe 4-5 was too much. will a 3" lift work in the front?

A 2wd drive sits about 2" lower then a 4x4 or more, and a 4x4 needs around 3" of lift to fit 33's so you would need the full 5" of lift is my guess. You can get away with 31's though. the tires and lift would be much less then.

u can get only about 2" of lift from the front susp. if u want more u need to replace the upper control arm.
a 2" susp lift and a 3" body lift will clear those 33"s and will look slick

where could I get upper controls arms individually? I can only find them in kits. what is the reason for the control arms, what happens if they aren't changed with a lift. I'm still learning haha

Well you would still be better off with buckling down and buying a whole kit. it is specifically designed to work with everything else in the kit and would probably be cheaper and safer in the long run.

cool, so like honduras said, I'd need a new control arm if I did more than 2" do you think the fenders and 2" would be enough?

gotcha cuz I was thinking do 2" lift coils or making those washer spacers for enough clearance

I got the 3in lift spindles and they are worth it to save up for. you can get em from doetsch and they are a bit less expensive and i could easily fit 33s and then a 1in spacer would make it work perfect i would recommend to save up for it and just do it that way then the back susp is easy. and your truck cannot use the washer spacers cause it is a 98+ so it has a bigger coil where it meets the arm but ebay has steel spacers for your truck for 40 bucks but you need to cut em down cause those are too big for the upper control arms.
