So yesterday I installed my new intake, carb and distributor on my 86. SO when I was done like a normal person I took it for a spin 'round the block. But like an IDIOT I forgot to put my hood pins back in. Yeah...so at 80 km/h this happened...

Thats where the corners of the hood dug into the wiper panel.

Those are the dents and peeled paint from the hinges overextending.

And thats how far the panel got peeled back. About 1/2 an inch.

This is how far it closes after 30 mins of readjusting and beating on the panel and the lip inside the engine bay.

And this is where it sits now becuase my alarm won't arm because the hood won't close and I don't want anybody breaking into it again.

So I close by saying.....I can't beleive I did that!!

wow.... owell just throw another hood on and move on no sense dwelling on it.

I had a hood latch break on me while I was driving about 50 on a country road. I had just got off the interstate about 10 min before. Creased the cowl pretty good and bent the corners of the hood. It didnt roll the panel like yours did. I too was suprised that my windshield didnt break.

or much worse--could have been in heavy traffic:icon_surprised:---so look on the bright side(as soon as you get it outta your system) Edit: this could be a good reason for a new modification + you gots a war-story now!:yahoo: Edit: SWAMPRAT-where did u find that quote? Being a 'Nam vet, somehow it makes sense to me:D

wow that sucks, but you are really lucky. when i was 17 and i had my first mustang ('89 coupe) that i put my life savings into i did exactly that. i put in a new intake and cam and was stoked to take it for a rip, forgot to pin them in and doing about 70 up a hill the hood flew up, wrecked the cowl, windshield. brand new $500 fiberglass hood, and my spirit. i was devistated and sold the car shortly there after because i couldnt bare to look at it.

HAHAHA yeah I'm over it. I got a new hood in the garage for it. I think I'm just gonna pound the panel flat and throw the new hood on...hopefully I didn't bend the hinges but I really think I did. I was behind my house....I have a huge straight away behind it thats just over a 1/4 mile long!!!!! how lucky am I!!

the same thing happened to my 87, the hood latch must not have caught when i closed the hood. The hood flew up at 35 mph, it seemed to have done more damage than yours but there is a positive side to the story. After i straightened out the cowl and hood, it opened a lot easier afterwards :icon_twisted::annoyed:

I fixed it yesterday. It only bent the hinges out off alignment so thats why it wouldn't close all the way. Now is closes easily. Today is a final coat of paint over the primer and it should be ready to go again....oh and new hood pins.
