I have a spare toyo kogyo transmission from an 86' 2.3 4x2 and a 1987 2.9 4x4 ranger with the Mitsubishi 5 speed that has issues, is the swap just a drop in? What's needed? The bell housings look identical. Thank you in advance.

If memory serves (been a while), that would work but you'd definitely have to swap the bellhousings. They are different between the 2.3 and 2.9.

Seems simple enough, know if same driveshaft would work?

Check with a tape measure - they both ought to be TK5's and identical, but that would confirm.

the tk is 4x2 and the mits is 4x4.......

Oof - I misread that. Yeah, that's a major problem. Also I glossed over them being different models but that should be less critical.
