can you take a transfer case off a 85 ranger that has a 2.8, and mount that transfer case on to a automatic 2wd trans from a 96 4.0 explorer?

doing the 4.0 swap, and i have a 4.0 1996 explorer auto 2wd .
1985 ranger , manual trans 4x4 2.8

can i put the t case on the explorers trans??
