Can oil escape the tail housing on a FM-146?

I thought I read a post where someone said a FM-146 will not leak oil out the rear on 4x4? Is this to be true? I have two that if I tilt them rear down, oil will leak out. I also looked at another guy's FM-146 and it too leaked oil out the rear. So will the oil run out the back in a normal situation?

The FM146 from my '90 has an output shaft seal (currently sitting in my garage with it's 2.75 qts of 80W90 still in it).
