Hi all, i just bought my truck yesterday and i need to replace the tires... the tires on it now rub when i turn all the way to right or left. and also they make my little 2.3 liter 4 banger so sluggish on highway speeds... they are 275/75/15 thats the same that are on my dads 1500. anyway

i want to get small tires im talking like 205/50/15. now will they fit fine on the 15 inch rims?

im almost positive they will fit but... the MAIN reason i have this truck is to haul some stuff. aka my quad.. i know my quad can haul it now with the big ass tires on it now but i want more umpfff so i want to get small tires..

but my question will 205/50/15 tires hold the load of my truck and also 800 pounds in the bed? they say maximum load on the tire is 1030 lbs per tire. so does that mean i muliply that by 4 and thats the max i should have total in weight including truck and hauled??

will i be safe running these small tires and if not what tire size would i be safe with?

ya they will fit great....and a lot better than that 275. i would do it!

and as for holding the wheeler....just think of a small car holding up 4 500 lb people....i see it up here once in a wile....so i don't see any problems for you

I would just bump down to a 235... 205's are pretty scrawny... But then again, I'm thinking of looks not actual capacity, so its up to you.

the door tag on the driver door will tell you what size tire you should run.
I believe the 205 is too small.

Well i mean 205 might be too small i might go a little big..

do you think i will notice an improvement in acceleration with smaller tires?>

i figured out the load range and tire i would need to run, they will be 215/70/15

will i notice anything going from 235/75/15 to 215/70/15? i hope so doesnt seem like that big of difference though...

and when i said 275..i meant they were 235 i misread them when i went in the dark to read..

235/75R15 is not a huge tire, I think you'd have to go to something like a 215/60R15 or even smaller before you start to see any significant difference.

What rear axle ratio does your truck have?
If it's something like 3.45:1 you might also consider going the route of changing the axle ratio instead of the tires. A different axle in decent condition from a salvage yard typically isn't much more than $200, if that even.

Okay so even if inbut stock rims and tired that are from factory there wi be hardly much if any differerence ? I was reading and the tires i have now are 43 pounds

If you have a 3.45 rear axle, then yes, even the stock size tires wouldn't have been ideal.
If you have 3.73 or 4.10 however, then stock size tires should work fine.

You can check what axle ratio you have here:

Remember though... At 100HP (or even less on some years), the 2.3L is no power house, however it should be able to maintain on the freeway without struggling (especially if the truck is otherwise near-stock).

This will give you a little better idea of the diameter of each tires. And the % difference between tires. And speed difference.

I'd just go with 225/70R15. They are smaller, but aren't too small and awkward.

Remember going to a smaller tire your speedo will read faster than before. (example: going 50 you will really be going 45)
