Can I use a Carb off a 2.0L on a 2.8 V-6?

I am DONE spending money on this truck. '84 with a 2.8 V-6, with ignition converted to dura-spark.

Having carb issues, it has the stock ECC-IV carb(electronics disconnected) MOTOR WILL NOT RUN, keeps dying, barely Idles, I ****ED around with the EAC unit, still nada.

So since I am DONE spending money on this piece of crap, can I make a spacer out of wood and install a 2.0L carb?

I got SHIT LOADS of 2.0L parts, and I am pinching quarters. This is my backup truck and I would like it to be working.

So can I install a 2.0L carb and have a decent running truck? (re-jetted?)

I am not willing at this point to plop down money for a new Holley carb, and looking around finding a 2.8, let alone a pinto or a 2.8 mustang is next to impossible in the salvage yards.

yeah it'll run, but you'll have ****-all power.

why not just buy a carb, which will solve the problem, which we ALL know will solve the problem.

or, sell the truck to one of us, and i'm sure we'd be more than happy to get a new carb and be rocking and rolling.

why do so many people do the hard part, then back off and say "screw it, i'm done" when it comes time to do the easy part.

Assuming you're actually serious...

Wood spacer? Really?

Dude there has got to be somebody selling a carb in the classified section. If that is actually the problem.

Did you disassemble the carb you have and cook it, then reassemble with new gaskets? Including the ones between the carb and intake?

If you have done that and you know that the rest of the engine is in good condition then there is probably something else wrong. The last 2.8 I had jumped time and had the same symptoms you're describing.

I have used the stock electronic carb on 2.8s with the wiring disconnected and they ran fine

The truck has several fuel related issues, I can probably block off the Carbs EAC port and go "all rich" condition and lean it out(as right now it's very lean only runs with choke closed)

But First I will have to remove the fuel tank sending unit to replace strainer(I must have contaminated fuel?) The flow rate is way low, doubled checked with another pump, something back at the tank is stopped up. Rust particles found in Fuel filter.

Mean while, cranking it over it seems my starter solenoid shorted up in the "on" position, that was fun.

I swear I am going to have a new truck when I get done.:annoyed:

I fail to understand why guys are still having problems with 2.8 carbs when a simply made manual metering block makes the original carb work just fine. The directions are even in the tech library somewhere.

Factory 2150 carbs off of smog era 302's are the same size as the Mustang II/Pinto carburators too... and people wonder why they only had 130ish hp.

All you need is one with a 1.08 venturi, my '78 302 came with one for an example.

Watch out for the spacer plate under the carb. If you use the one for the Electric carb under a NON elec. carb, you can end up with a very bad idle issue Just changed out the pacer on mine for one from a non e. carb, and, gee, now the idle issues are gone... lived with that for almost 3 years. How's THAT for procrastinating? only took like 2 minutes to swap out.
