is it possible to fully convert my stick shift to an auto just like if it came from the factory ?

yes. get an automatic truck and swap all parts... or just drive it

Or just pick up a trans and related parts. The transmission is computer controlled so you'll also need a ECU from an auto Ranger. May I ask why you want to swap trannies?

i want to change my truck with a 4.0 but i wasn't sure if i could change to auto. i love stick shift but theres times u know where ur driving around the city u just wish u had a automatic.

fmi(for my info) what would the components be?

ECU, trans obviously, flexplate, torque converter, trans cooler lines and radiator if yours doesn't have a cooler, pedal and pedal mounts, shifter, dipstick, possibly an instrument cluster.. thats all i can think of at the moment

wow so would i be better off just throwing in another motor and sale my truck and buy another one that i want with auto? cause i want an ext cab for some sub and put performance suspension on it to off road.

Yes. It's one of those--"If you have to ask"--questions. It would be a nightmare to someone that isn't extremely used to such things.

it is cause i really don't wanna get that in depth with it i mean i like knowing what i know and want more but to get in that kind of jam would be horrible for me. another question which would be better for driving around town then going up to the mountains, with a performance lift. A ranger edge or xlt with either 4x4 or 2x4? sorry if that is confusing

Then give the swap a miss. Period.

I don't know the differences in the Edge etc. I don't know what your requirements are. But if you get an auto, the newer the better. Ford improved the trannies substantially as time went by.

ok well for my truck now i'm just gonna replace the motor. as for a newer truck i wanna stay in the 98-2003 i believe it might be 2001. i want it to be a dd with a 5.5 lift in front and like 2-3 in back. and i wanna be able to go up to the mountains so that is where the 4x4 or 2x4 come in. i'm guessing i'd want the 4x4 since i would be going through some snow and mud? but i also wanna be able and go off roading, so i'm kinda at a crossroad on what to get and do.

If you want to lift it, look at older trucks (97 and older) as they are far easier and cheaper to lift and give better results.

yeah but where would i get the better performance though? an a-arm truck or i beam?
