Browsed for years, thought I'd finally sign up here.

Think I can force fit this sprocket in there? Timing mark is a little off, but that doesn't matter right? Nor the extra set of teeth?

So yeah, I'm pretty sure that sprocket is not going to work in this.

Seems my luck always nets me damaged or the wrong parts.

My radiator has been leaking for a while, and timing chain cover / water pump was always a little damp, but after doing some other work to the truck after it being parked a few months, the radiator started pouring coolant at the end cap, same for the timing cover, upper passenger side looked to be leaking pretty bad. Not sure specs for timing chain, but it seems pretty stretched, so likely good to swap it out.

Parts got here the other day, finally got the timing cover off today, and noticed the lower sprocket is wrong in the Cloyes C3218 kit I bought from Rockauto. Seems to have been put in the wrong box. The sprocket is an S869 when I need the S859. Couldn't seem to find a Motorcraft timing chain / sprockets, the Cloyes seemed about as close as I was going to get at Rockauto.

This truck is pretty beat up all around. 2001 Ranger 3.0 XLT / extended cab 2wd. I mainly use it to haul scrap metal / appliances / low speed. Is the last vehicle my dad bought second hand before he passed, so I just try to keep it going, though it was rough when my dad got it, even worse looking now. Any normal person would have junked this truck years ago, but I'll get a little more life out of it. It's got just shy of 208K on it currently.

Anyway, thought I'd post something after signing up, as I have a habit of signing up to some forums and never post anything. One reason I don't post much is I can usually find any repair info as I do some searching, so no need to ask anything.

welcome to the group.

I've used a bunch of Cloyes parts over the years... they were my go to for my air cooled VW shop. Never had a problem... ever. Seems like with most auto parts these days... it's a total crapshoot on what you get.

Yeah I knew something wasn’t right when I seen the two rows of teeth. Figured the Cloyes should work just fine though. I still need to clean off the old gasket material and get it all prepped so was just taking a look at everything, but glad I did now instead of when I was actually ready to install it.

And thank you as well!

Please don't try it, it takes too long to rip it back apart and do the job over.

Just to note, I would not actually try to install the wrong one. And thanks for linking the Napa one.

Rockauto already shipped the correct one (hopefully correct) after I contacted them this morning, so that should be here soon enough.

Sounds like my luck with radiators. Lol. I bought an all aluminum 3 core for my 97 off ebay. It fits 98-01. They wouldn't take it back because i "installed" it. But i didn't because it wouldn't fit. So i had to buy another one. $500 later i have the right one & one for a 98-01 that i can't use.

I forgot about the front cover, which won't fit either. The double gear takes up space on the crankshaft. You can see that in the photo. If you have it on then install the cover with the front oil seal, the oil seal won't fit all the way onto the cover. The harmonic balancer and the main pulley go on later, which will be misaligned, etc.

Well the replacement got here today. It's said out for delivery the last two days, but some sort of issue delivering the last couple days. Though I still need to finish cleaning gasket material off.

Looks like it should fit fine at first glance.

Super annoying dealing problems, especially when waiting for shipping! Not to mention when sellers don't want to work with you. I feel like you could force a not as described return through ebay, seems you can usually send anything back if you check the not as described box, IDK. I've had quite a few issues with ordering parts over the years, guess it's the price to pay for saving money.
