I noticed this on my truck when I got it. I looked around for a few minutes and found the coax cable connected to this under my dash. I was wondering if there was any type of antenna that I can use with this. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to this kinda stuff.

check the threads. if they are 3/8x24, that is the standard for most cb type and some ham antennas. if the cable is RG-58 or similar, that will be the answer as well. where on the truck is this? very interesting mount. don't think i've ever seen one like that. maybe home made?

i'd like to see a pic of more of the area around that mount.. kind of reminds me of those glass mounted cel/cb type of antennas

that's one of those glass mount cb antennas that has a very short transmitting range.
I'm not aware that replacement parts are sold for those. i know new at wally-world they were only $20 some bucks to start with, guess you get what you pay for. if you wanted a better antenna I'd get a firestick but that depends on personal taste..

I was thinking about getting a new one, I just wanted to see if I could get a cheap replacement antenna for now and just use the wiring thats already there.
Thanks for the help! :icon_thumby:

Do not stick a heavy antenna on that mount, it isn't made for it... also, those glass mount antennas are known for their crappy range, you would be better off finding a roof mount antenna, specifically something like a Wilson "Lil Wil" or Wilson 1000.

One of my friends convinced me to get a 4ft Firestik. Thanks for the help though.

Looks like a scanner antenna to me. It could be a CB antenna, but you might as well try transmitting with a wet noodle, since glass mounts really stink for transmitting.
