by installing a bigger or higher tire? I have a completely stock very low mileage 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 regular cab with 7' bed....Has the 4.0 with automatic and 4:10 posi rear.

I off-road only on sandy beaches and it runs great on the beach with the stock tires...I still have the original size tires on it....I would though like to add maybe an inch more to my ground cleareance....I want to keep the truck stock like it is...so no lifting or anything but my question is will a larger size tire give me any more ground clearance than stock?

My stock tires are P235/75R15

Thanks.

yes it will but you cant go much bigger than stock with out lifting

yes, taller tires do give more ground clearance. I would say that to gain the inch that you would like to gain, you are going to have to go up to a 31 inch tire.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into going maybe one size bigger than stock when I replace my tires as I have enough clearance now but in areas of the ocean beaches where we basically follow tracks at times I could use just a hair bit more clearance...no more than an inch...if that..

Thanks again!

Stock 3rd Gens came with up to a 265/31" tire. I've seen 32x11.50 with minor rubbing but 33's will rub fenders for sure.

you will gain in ground clearance half of your increase in tire size. for example: going from a 235/75/15 (29'') to a 31x1050x15 gives you a 2'' increase in tire size which in turn gains you 1'' of ground clearance

when you switch up to a larger tire, make sure you get your speedo corrected for running a larger tire to avoid a speeding ticket!

i got 31's on my stock ranger, and gained an inch of ground clearance and totally worth it.

as for the thing about speedometer, my ranger's speedo was 6mph off when i had the p235's on (when it was COMPLETELY stock), i have no idea why, but since I put the 31's on it's now 7mph slow.
