I was on the freeway going about 65, engine died, pulled over, turned key starter solenoid just clicked, wouldn't turn over, thought alternator died, then drained battery. $300. tow job to house, took alt in they said it was bad, replaced alt, jumped batt, stater clicks, new batt, new starter, starter tries to turn over but cant. tried to manually turn over engine, wont, took in to mechanic, either seized engine,or seized trans. says he needs to separate to determine which it is. PLEASE ADVISE!!!

i think you should take it to a different mechanic.

anyway, i doubt the issue is your trany, i would bet that if something is locked up that it is your motor.

can they seize? yes.. they have moving parts.

is this even likely? no. the torque converter will allow the engine to turn independent of the transmission.

find a new mechanic.. FAST.

sounds like you are looking at a new engine... checked your oil lately?

Pull that dip stick it's free.Towed to a crappy mechanic that's worse luck than the car breaking down.

Hand crank the engine at the front crank. If it turns. then the engine is not seized. shouldn't take much muscle power.

If the engine turns. pull the starter motor out and bench test it.

If it appears to work fine and strong, then check the wires leading to the starter. They Can GO Bad. leading to the condition that sounds like yours. where the starter sounds like its out of power or wont turn the engine over.

Make sure the engines ground wire is good as well. If you cant find. it ADD ONE. a engine with a extra ground wire is good!
