I have no idea if this is a vehicle Ford actually manufactured, or if it's a custom rig (leaning more towards the latter)... but it's AWESOME. Looks to me like it's an Econoline with a modified cab and custom fit Bed from a F-series. Was walking home one day while I was getting the drums done on the Ranger, and I came across this beauty. I know it's not an RBV, but I didn't know where else to put it, and I had to share. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

ITs custom and on its stock frame. with a dually axle under, pretty common down in AZ

That would just happen to be a Centurion Econoline. we have a few around here in upstate NY but you certainly don't see many.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like that before here in Southern California. It's gorgeous though, I'd love to have something like that. What years did they make those? That one has to be mid-80's by the looks of the front end.

I pass one every time I drive to my parents house in NH. It's purple and yellow.:bad:

So they were made like that, just not many of them, or what? I would seriously be interested in getting one of these for a towing/hauling rig instead of a F-Series if I ever decide to turn my Ranger into an offroad truck. I've always loved the Econoline, the only thing that stopped me from getting one was the lack of a bed. Problem solved with one of these =P.

Wern't those made for pulling 5th wheel trailers in the 80s by some production fab shops.Looks like it has a good sleeper on it too. Same wheels as my chevy 3500 witch aren't very common either.

Ford sells the econoline "cut off" right behind the cab for delivery truck builders motor home makes, etc.

I believe that the vehicle pictured is purpose made for the owners
of Hot Air Balloons.

You might not see many in So-Cal, but in Nor-Cal wine country might be
a different story. I've seen several around Pennsylvania
more in NY state (wine country)

we have a guy around here that either fixes them up or makes his own. hes got about 6 of them sitting on the yard. i dont think any of them have boxes though.

one of the guys that used to race around here had one to pull his trailer. it had the sleeper but it was more of a toolbox and it had a flatbed on it.

the ford dealer here used to have 5 or 6 on the lot new in the 80's. they were all set up with 5th wheel hitches some ball and some pin.

5th wheel pullers. you could also get one with a full size truck cab on it. the horse farm i used to work at had a retired one for pulling a matching show trailer. when i worked there it was used has a 5th wheel farm truck and was getting pretty beaten up. i think it had almost 350k on the non-turbo 7.3 and ZF 5spd

I've seen a handful of those throughout my lifetime..

I want to put a 12 valve in one and use it to tow the race trailer...

a friend of mine use to have one of those. same colour as the one in the picture with a red interior. not sure what the motor was, 351 maybe?. he had a big topper on it and would pull a 3 axel trailer that had his drag car and tools in it. its a prety interesting vehicle.
