90 Ranger tail lights and license plate lights

On my 90 ford ranger, both rear tail lights will blink when the right side turn signal is turned on, while the right front blinker is blinking..

The front and back blinkers work fine when the left side blinker is turned on?

I don't know what's causing both rear tail lights to flash when I use the right blinker, as the left side works fine without any problems..

Another thing I noticed is that if I put on the right side blinker, without the key in the ignition, and press the brake pedal..

The right front, driver's side, turn signal light will light up and stay on, but the right front turn signal doesn't flash, while the brake pedal is being depressed, both the rear brake lights will stay on, too, but the right rear blinker doesn't light up..

When I turn the heater blower motor's switch on, without the key on.. And I turn on the right side signal, as I hold the brake pedal on.. The turn signal flasher will click, the heater blower motor will start up on each click the flasher makes, as the right front and both right rear turn signals will blink, and then stop between each click, as brake pedal is being depressed..

If I take my foot off the brake pedal, everything stops, as was explained..

Another thing I also noticed is if I put on the emergency flashers they will work fine, until I depress the brake pedal..

Then the emergecncy flasher lights will stay on and stop flashing, as long as the brake pedal is depressed..

I've never had a problem like this, before..

What is the solution to this problem, when the right side blinker is turned on and both rear blinkers will start blinking, when the ignition switch is on?

Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem, before, and know what needs to be done to fix it?

Where are the grounds located for the tail lights and the license plate lights on a 1990 Ranger..

Now here's a funny one.

I just removed the ENTIRE harness from my 88 (body off restoration), and NOW that you mention it, there was NOT a ground wire back there, AND there was NO problem with lights, Hum, would have to assume it's in the harness, and comes from the front ????

Greg

yep, comes from the front. For the license plate light there is a white and yellow wire, the yellow is the power, white ground. For the tail lights I don't know but I've replaced my chassis wiring before and there weren't any grounds that I remember.

Is there anyone who can figure this problem out..

Everything I've tried hasn't worked..

I"ve tried a different turn signal switch, turn signal flasher relay, all new turn signal bulbs, checked and cleaned the fuses..

you sir have electrical gremlins and i would sell your truck and uy a new one, unless you are good with electrical systems

I would change your multifunction switch. That is, you turn signal switch. It's called multifunction because that's where all the circuits you described, interact (except the blower circuit). When they go bad, all kinds if wierd things happen. Make sure you check your grounds on the blower motor circuit...

The switch would be my guess too.

Where do you check the grounds on the blower motor circuit..

The blower motor only works on high, that couldn't be causing a problem for the rear turn signals not working properly, could it, as I'm assuming the heater blower motor resistor is burned out..

Correct, I misunderstood you about the blower motor, that's the blower motor resistor. Go back and check your grounds for your lights, as well as the connectors to the multi switch, the relay, and the flasher. Since you said you changed it, the circuits are possibly searching for ground to complete the circuit...

I've cleaned all the grounds that I could find, unless there are other one's, somewhere, that I haven't found, yet..

How many grounds are there, anyway, and where are they all located..

As far as I can tell, all the connections on the turn signal switch, the relay, and the flasher seem to be ok..

I'd have to research the ground locations, have you checked the brake switch and connections?

SVT

Missing grounds and or bad grounds will cause these problems, if you changed the turn signal switch that eliminates that...
If you have factory pigtail for the trailer lights, corrosion gets in the contacts causing cross connects even though there's a cap on it.
