Can a PATS system be totally deleted?

Im not sure a ranger rear axle would be a direct swap, the sport-trac was based of the explorer, and explorer axles were a spring under axle, rangers are a spring over. Plus theres the possibility of a sport-trac having a independent rear suspension. Im not really familiar with how they are , of course anything is possible with fabrication skills, the right tools and some metal.

ok, can I simply swap gears? If so what gears do you recommend?

Not without more work and money than it takes to just replace the entire axle...

One does not simply "swap" gears.

How many times do I have to tell you this? YES WE CAN!!! We do not have to replace PCMs and ICs in pairs. The dealer does in fact have the ability to reset the system to accept new parts.

Ok, so look for an axel with a 4:10 gears ratio? Did an Explorer come with one?

I agree with the guys advising against the swap. If you live in dead flat country, never load your vehicle, and never tow anything you'll still find a 3.0 underpowered. If you install another 4.0, the job is done with no rear end swap, no electronic hassles and hopefully no surprises. Also. if you have OBD inspection like NH does, the VIN in the PCM has to match the VIN on the registration to pass.
