camshaft

Tough question, all 302's/5.0's didn't use the same cam. Roller or flat tappet? Is the rest of the engine still stock? Whet rear gears are you running? Stock torque convertor? How will you use it? I would decide what RPM range you want it to run- and be honest, a 6500 rpm screamer will have a cool idle and be doggy at low rpms where a street engine lives.

roller, engine bored 40 over, 373 rear, stock converter, daily street

I recently started installed a comp xe258 in my Ranger. It’s a small cam that doesn’t take away the bottom for top. That being said it pulls a good bit higher than the factory explorer cam I had. Idles like stock too.

The XE258 is a good choice, I might even go to a 260HR. Don't be put off by their being "small" cams. The Isky roller in my 13 second Mustang is only 210/218 degrees at .050.
