Got the 2.3L 85 Ranger I haven't gotten running yet (kind of abandoned it due to other stuff), want to get back around to it when the weather cools off. One of the upgrades I'd like to make while it's partially apart is the roller camshaft swap. Maybe the round tooth belt sprockets too if theres a full set. Even if the truck ends up being a goner, the 2.3L will stick around for future projects, so want the parts either way.

There's a few Rangers in the salvage yard that are new enough to have the sprockets and dual plug heads. There's a 90 model that's going to have the right followers for my early head and hasn't been butchered yet. I don't want to use the dual plug head or I'd pull the whole thing. So...

What specialty tools do I need to pull the the roller followers and camshaft at the junkyard?

I'm covered on other tools, just not sure about the specialty stuff.

A square frame screwdriver handle type prybar should be enough to get the followers out, pry the valve spring down and pull them out, it's finicky but is about the easiest way...

As for pulling the cam, there's two #3 phillips head bolts holding the retention plate on if I remember right, conveniently facing backward toward the firewall.
