Anyone here ever went camping with your Ranger? Please post your experience. I just bought some land and this summer I was thinking about taking my Ranger camping on that land since I don't have anything built yet. I was thinking about getting one of those pop up campers and use the Ranger to tow it.

As for water I was thinking about buying a 200 gallon water bag filled it up with water at a place where I have water and taking it to my land.

What about electricity? I have a 800 watt power inverter linked up to a deep cycle battery.

Anyone ever took the Ranger camping? if so how long was your stay? How did you get by? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on taking mine this Saturday! I'm gonna slap on a camper top and see how it goes. I also plan on buying a popup camper soon.

haha i spent many of drunkin nights asleep in the old girl...if that counts?...i also bout a one man tent thats small enough to fit right into the back of it

when i take mine i usually take a tent but with only one other person and a dog i will my bed with firewood and all my supply and the tool box. i could put the cap on but i hate it so i dont but for more than 2-3 people the ranger doesnt have enough room for stuff IMO but if you have a cap you have ton more room so yea... lol you should be fine camping with it. i have towed my 10 foot small camper a couple times and it does fine and i have alot more room then

I had a canopy on mine, and 2 people can sleep in there as long as you're friendly, heh.

what about the ranger's alternator? Is it good enough to charge my deep cycle battery?

i used my one man tent and i have a thick rubber bed mat and my dads army wool blanket and lay it on the floor of the tent and took my fiance with me and yea it was a pretty good nite pretty warm

I've always used the Ranger to haul my tent and gear to where I'm camping, lol.

Slept in the cab a couple times for various reasons. Can't remember ever sleeping in the bed though.

Stock alt will charge a deep cycle as long as the alt is in good condition.

800w power inverter will only power things like a cell charger or laptop. If you want to power say a coffee pot, it ain't happenin. I've tried.

200 gallons of water? You staying a month or planning on taking all sorts of long showers? I usually just took a 5-gal water tote if I was staying a weekend.

What are you planning on running off the deep cycle? I always just throw all the gear in the bed and call it good.

I've taken mine camping a few times, but the truck was used to haul stuff. However, a friend has a Toyota with a cap. He inflates an air mattress and sleeps in the back. Fan for summer, heater for winter. We always go to campsites, so theres always elec. What would you need elec for anyhow? Main reason why we get elec is for fans/heaters and laptop for movies.

Last time I took it camping was to WV. A friend of mine came along with me so the bed was packed (glad I had a tonno cover then). A bit of history bout the friend, good guy, extremely smart........and knows it, if you get what I mean. The last time I drove with him was when we went biking. He drove his van, so we had our bikes sitting loose in the back and he drives crazy! I ended up getting into a fight with the pavement on our ride and the pavement won. Had a good size goose egg on my forehead. Well that mofo had to drive like a ****ing idiot home and when we did get home, I seriously wanted to kill him. Fast foward to our trip back from WV. Not sure what highway I was on, but it was hilly. When we got to the top of a hill, you could see ahead of your for a few miles. So if there wasn't a cop around, I punched it and got the lil loaded down 4banger up to 95~+. I had a grin on nearly the whole time cause he had his hand on the HS handles and his knuckles were white from gripping so hard. Needless to say the fearless ***hole was a tad bit scared. Ah, how I'll miss those days. All my camping buddies moved out of state.

please keep in mind that water weighs about 10 lbs/gal. guess you're talking about 2000# plus whatever you have in your ranger. and make sure the tank is baffled or you could have major issues towing it. water bag could be real trouble without securing it very, very well.
if you have a topper on your truck, you could mount one of the better and larger solar chargers on it to recharge your deep cycle battery. and if you have the money, i'd go with a dual battery setup for your truck. more charging options that way without having to worry about depleting your starting battery.
another option might be if you could find a good used wind powered generator used on small airplanes way back when. it's just a small propeller that drives a small generator, usually 12 or 24 volt. those old airplanes cruised at well under 100mph typically, so it should work quite well at freeway speeds.
there are also small generators for power that cost well under $200 for extended camping and helping keep batteries charged. mine is quite small and lightweight and still puts out about 2,000 watts.
as for a camper, there is a new line of all aluminum tent campers on the market. Lite Line i believe. very very light and nothing to rust or rot as the only steel is the axle and there is no wood used.

just a couple ideas really. good luck to you and have fun! :icon_thumby:

i just planned on going 50/50 with a friend on a used futon ($60 total) and he wants the frame, ill just throw the futon mattress in my bed, and use it on the non raining nights when im out with my girl. :derisive:

ive got an old 15 1964 driftwood camper re did all the inside....loaded the back of the truck down with a moped and firewood and went to a campround an hour away for a racing weekend...did pretty good allthough my top speed was about 45-50 out on the road and that was with a weight distributing hitch...just a little much weight for the truck i guess....deffinantly wasnt a pleasure pulling it.

although im thinking about selling the camper and buying a wrecked ranger and making a trailer out of the rear bed and frame along with a camper shell...would be cool looking and should be pretty light
