Don't forget the bumpstop compresses. The bumpstops I've looked at have metal half way up the side, so that would be where to measure to. Most times that metal is hidden inside the rubber. Sometimes you can feel it. Jabbing with an awl would likely find it.
And there are different height bumpstops so you could theoretically fit to your use case.
